OAK HARBOR, Wash. – A Northwest Washington county has been listed as a top healthy place to live by a major publication.
US News and World Report released its “Healthiest Communities” Honor Roll on Monday, highlighting 36 counties that by their measures best serve their residents in the face of often complex health-related challenges.
Island County made the list with a life expectancy of 81.9 years, four years higher than the national median, in part due to a smoking rate well below the national average.
The publication says only 8.8% of Island County residents are without health insurance, well below the 12.9% national average.
