ANACORTES, Wash. — A coalition of environmental groups is trying again to get a permit withdrawn for a proposed project at Andeavor Anacortes Refinery.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the coalition, consisting of seven groups including RE Sources for Sustainable Communities filed an appeal Wednesday with the Shorelines Hearing Board.
They contend the environmental impact statement, which found the Clean Products Upgrade Project met standards, was inadequate and did not look at its potential impact to the Salish Sea and the climate.
County commissioners told the coalition the shoreline permit does not include how the project might affect ship traffic or greenhouse gases.
The coalition’s appeal points specifically to the chemical compound Xylene, and potential dangers of shipping it from the refinery to Asia.
