OLYMPIA, Wash. — A new report shows work-related deaths in 2016 were up from 2015, and transportation-related incidents made up a third of those fatal injuries.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 78 people died on the job in Washington in 2016, up from 70 in 2015.
Nationwide, results show a 7% increase in work related deaths.
Transportation incidents including vehicle collisions, hitting pedestrians and overturned freight trucks accounted for 27 deaths, while falls, slips and trips claimed 24 lives in 2016.
Agriculture and forestry related deaths dropped, but construction workers saw a sizable spike.
Of the 78 people who died, 70 were men, and 60 were white or non-Hispanic.
