MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — A recent internal investigation accuses a former Skagit County deputy of inappropriate relationships with at least three women.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports the Sheriff’s Office investigation determined Josafat Gutierrez violated several department policies regarding sexual activity.
It also says the former deputy failed to act when he didn’t arrest a woman mistakenly released from the county jail.
The woman told deputies she believed Gutierrez was her boyfriend and they had numerous sexual encounters while his fellow deputies were trying to find and rearrest her.
The Sheriff called Gutierrez’s actions an “embarrassment” and told the Herald he “discredited the badge he wore.”
