SEATTLE, Wash. — A scam going around King County has made its way to Whatcom and Skagit Counties.
The King County Sheriff’s Office says a large number of fraudulent calls claiming to be from the Sheriff’s department are telling people they have an arrest warrant for missing jury duty or need to pay back taxes.
The Sheriff’s Office says it never calls people asking for money on warrants or back taxes, and wouldn’t tell you in advance if they are coming to arrest you.
Scammers often use spoofed numbers and may even use the names of officers currently employed with the sheriff’s office or courts, to make it look legitimate.
