BELLINGHAM, Wash. — More than 300 bikes were reported stolen last year, so to celebrate National Bike Month, Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville has named May “Bike Theft Prevention Month.”

Police and volunteers will hold local events sharing information on secure bike locks, proper locking techniques and bicycle registration.

Events include Pint Nights at local breweries, Bike to Work Day and outreach at popular trailheads.

On top of this month’s outreach, Bellingham Police are targeting thieves through a bike bait program, that has been successful in the past.
