OLYMPIA, Wash. — A record number of unused, unwanted or expired prescription medications were disposed of at National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events April 28th.
The Drug Enforcement Administration says more than six thousand collection events were set up nationwide, collecting just over 474 tons of medications, with Washington collecting about seventeen thousand pounds.
The agency says unused drugs are a public safety issue and, without proper disposal, can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose, misuse and environmental harm.
DEA.gov has more results from this year’s events.
