BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A local incumbent and a newcomer have filed for positions in the state legislature.
Republican Representative Luanne Van Werven of Lynden is running for re-election saying she’s proud she was part of passing a solution to the Hirst decision and wants to continue to serve the county through her various committees.
Tim Ballew II currently serves on the Whatcom County Council and is running for the 42nd District State Senate seat which Republican Doug Ericksen of Ferndale has served for many years.
Ballew says he has an early fundraising lead with $42,000.
