BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police awarded K-9 Officer Chris Kaiser with a First Class Commendation last week for his actions in saving a man’s life.

On January 13th, Officer Kaiser responded to reports of a stabbing at some apartments on Alderwood Avenue and found Cody Shadle bleeding profusely with multiple stab wounds that severed his femoral artery.

Officer Kaiser applied a tourniquet and quick clot gauze to Shadle’s leg until paramedics arrived.

Medics said Shadle would have likely died if not for Officer Kaiser’s actions.

The suspected attacker, Brant Kirkwood, faces several charges including attempted murder and witness tampering.

Shadle’s condition was not immediately available.
