SEATTLE, Wash. (AP) — An Amazon Echo device recorded a Portland family’s private conversation and sent it to an acquaintance in Seattle.
KIRO-TV reports the acquaintance contacted the couple and said he thought their device had been hacked after receiving an audio file of them discussing hardwood floors.
Amazon confirmed the incident in a statement Thursday and said the device interpreted background noise as commands, prompting it to record and send the conversation.
The company says it is evaluating options to make this case less likely.
