NOOKSACK VALLEY, Wash. — The U.S. Dept. of the Interior and the National Park Service awarded more than $110,000 to Whatcom County tribes and over $965,000 to the Washington State for historic preservation.
The agencies announced more than $60 million in historic preservation grants to states, territories and tribal historic preservation offices nationwide.
The Lummi tribe will get nearly $64,000 and the Nooksack tribe almost $57,000.
Past grants were used to establish cultural resources, organize environmental monitoring, train emergency response teams, and initiate conservation legislation.
