BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A North Whatcom firefighter has died.
Firefighter John Swobody lost a long battle with cancer on Monday after nearly nineteen years in service.
North Whatcom Fire and Rescue says the cancer was caused by his profession, making him the first firefighter in the station’s history to die in the line of duty.
A public service will be held at Christ the King Church on Meridian next Saturday, June 16.
