WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office is warning of yet another phone scam.

A caller recently contacted a local citizen and claimed there was a warrant for the person’s arrest.

The caller offered to quash the warrant for $5000 and instructed the person to buy “green dots” – a money transfer service – at Fred Meyer.

The caller used the name, rank and nearly identical badge number of an employee of the Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Office says law enforcement will never call and offer to withdraw a warrant for money.
