BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Independence Day is approaching and the fire marshal has some important reminders.

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal says citizens are only allowed to light fireworks in the county during the evenings of July 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Bellingham has a complete ban, and other cities have their own restrictions.

Fireworks purchased at reservation stands must remain on the reservation.

Fire crackers, bottle rockets and other explosives are illegal outside of the reservation.

If you plan on lighting sky lanterns, they must be controlled by tethering them with string as you may be liable for any fires they start.
