OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington wages were up in 2017 as the minimum wage jumped from $9.47 to $11 an hour.

The State Employment Security Department says Washington’s average annual wage grew by 5% in 2017 to $61,877, signifying the biggest increase since 2007.

The figures used were wages covered by unemployment insurance.

In 2017, the industries with the largest wage growth were retail trade, up 14.5 percent; information, up 8.2 percent; and accommodation and food services, up 6.9 percent.

Washington residents voted in 2016 to raise the minimum wage to $13.50 by 2020, and to require employers to offer paid sick leave.
