BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Port of Bellingham got good marks on its financial audit.

The Washington State Auditors Office, which independently analyzes budgets to see that local and state governments comply with laws and regulations, passed down a favorable opinion of the Port for fiscal year 2017. In this year, the Port collected $7 million in taxes and $23.7 million in operations revenue.

“A clean audit is a reflection of the Port of Bellingham’s commitment towards excellence in financial reporting,” said Port Commission President Ken Bell. “The Board of Commissioners holds the stewardship of taxpayer funds in the highest regard.”

This clean audit could be the 26th consecutive year that the Port may receive the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting, which is awarded to governments that go above and beyond in transparency for with their financial information. The Port owns, operates and maintains approximately 1600 acres of property including a shipping terminal, a cruise terminal, two marinas, industrial development areas, commercial uplands, parklands, shoreline public access areas and the Bellingham International Airport.
