WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – A Whatcom County man is in jail after Sheriff’s deputies say he tried to kill his stepfather over cigarettes.
Undersheriff Jeff Parks says 39 year old Kenneth Leong was repeatedly asking his mother for cigarettes at their home on Y Road Monday when his 71 year old stepfather told him to stop.
Leong got a knife and stabbed his stepfather in the chest and left the home.
Deputies say he confessed to the stabbing when they contacted him.
The stepfather suffered about 7 non-life threatening stab wounds to his chest and one on a hand.
Leong was arrested on suspicion of attempted 2nd degree murder.
He’s also being held for a mental evaluation.
