BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham Police arrested a man after finding he had discharged two fire extinguishers in and around an apartment building in the 200 block of North Commercial Street early Saturday.

Lieutenant Don Almer says officers and fire personnel responded to reports a little after 3 A.M. of smoke in the area.

They found Justin Star Hill holding a fire extinguisher with fire retardant on his clothes.

Almer says witnesses mistook the retardant for smoke and there was no fire.

Officers found another extinguisher that had been discharged on apartment stairs and a sidewalk.

They arrested Hill, who had no association with the apartment complex, for tampering with firefighting equipment.
