WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Whatcom County Sheriff’s office identifies the young man killed in a fall from the Park Butte Lookout on Thursday as 20-year-old Diego A. Cabanas Esparza of Pacific, Washington.
Undersheriff Jeff Parks says Cabanas Esparza and two friends from Bellingham were on the lookout south of Mount Baker when he fell from the back of the building which is over a cliff.
Cabanas Esparza fell about 90 feet.
He died while a naval helicopter rescue crew was transporting him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
