OLYMPIA, Wash. — Twenty-two Republican state lawmakers are denouncing Democrat calls to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency in a letter released Monday.
The ten state senators and twelve representatives wrote the Department of Homeland Security Secretary and said while people differ on the best way to enforce border security, it’s common sense that an entity does so.
They also point out that ICE’s responsibilities extend to fighting human trafficking, international gang activity and illegal drugs and weapons smuggling.
The letter also notes that ICE was created following the 9/11 attacks with bipartisan support as well as the American public’s, while calls to dismantle it have become increasingly politicized.
