FERNDALE, Wash. — Construction on I-5 in Ferndale starts this Monday, July 30.
The City of Ferndale reports crews will begin work on a roundabout at Portal Way and I-5 Northbound Exit 263 for the next few weeks.
Drivers should expect impacts on Portal Way as crews widen the intersection. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic through the work zone.
The final part of this project, expected to begin in mid-August, will require the closure of both I-5 Northbound on and off ramps for up to five days and drivers will be detoured.
The City says they will provide details on that closure next week.
=====================================
Before that, Washington State Department of Transportation crews will close the right lane of southbound I-5 at Samish Way from 5 P.M. Saturday through 11 A.M. Sunday.
They will be replacing a damaged concrete panel to create a smoother ride for travelers.
Most of that eighteen hours will be closed to allow the new concrete to dry, making it look like an empty work zone.
Delays and congestion are expected on Sunday morning.
=====================================
The Marysville area may also experience slow-downs for most of the weekend, as a heavily-used exit will be closed for off-ramp improvements.
The State Department of Transportation says I-5 ramps at the 116th Street Northeast interchange in Marysville (just north of the Seattle Premium Outlets) will be closed from 9 P.M. Friday through Monday morning.
They will widen lanes, update bike lanes and sidewalks, and improve the road to reduce congestion and increase safety as part of a regional improvement project.
