OLYMPIA, Wash. — What’s being called a “gun violence prevention” measure made the ballot for November’s General Election.
Secretary of State Kim Wyman certified Initiative 1639 Friday. More than 259,000 registered voters signed its petition, which allows it on the ballot by law.
The measure proposes enhanced background checks, waiting periods, and increased age requirements to obtain semiautomatic assault rifles.
The initiative states that the tightened restrictions will help keep semiautomatic weapons out of dangerous hands.
