TACOMA, Wash. — A man charged in the murder of a Pierce County Deputy is expected to plead guilty Friday and get a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

KOMO reports Deputy Daniel McCartney was shot to death while responding to an armed home invasion in early January.

One suspect died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, two women are awaiting trial for their alleged involvement, and Frank Pawul, who investigators believe fired the fatal shot, is expected to make the guilty plea.

The Pierce County Sheriff wrote in a Facebook post, “This hearing marks a step in the journey for justice for Daniel. But it is not the last step.”
