OLYMPIA, Wash. — The EPA is reconsidering water quality standards it approved for Washington two years ago, after a request by industry groups.

In November 2016, the EPA finalized water quality standards for Washington State which took into consideration how much fish people eat and in some cases set stricter limits than the state had wanted.

Tribes and environmental groups said tough rules were needed to protect people who eat fish.

Eight business and trade groups including the Washington Farm Bureau petitioned the EPA saying it usurped the role of the state and imposed unworkable rules that will devastate local communities and businesses.
