SEATTLE, Wash. — The head of the Seattle Port Commission says all proper security protocols were in place at Sea-Tac Airport when a ground worker stole a commercial aircraft Friday evening.

Commission President Courtney Gregoire told a news conference Monday morning that all airport employees get a security badge following a background check by T.S.A. and those badges are renewed every two years.

According to her, Sea-Tac actually has stricter security than many other airports: “We added employee security screening–physical screening–like you experience when you travel through this airport,” she said.

She calls this a “one-in-a-million experience,” but an event they can learn from.

She says Port and Sea-Tac officials have been and will continue talking with airlines, other airports and the federal government about additional steps to take.
