BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Washington received the honor of having the worst air quality in the country on Wednesday as wildfire smoke continues to blanket the skies.

Today, Whatcom County air is considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” a slight improvement over the last few days.

Air quality reached hazardous levels in Chelan and Wenatchee Thursday, prompting Chelan County to distribute masks to residents.

The National Weather Service maintains that an onshore flow of air will push the smoke out of the area by the end of the week.
