SEATTLE, Wash. — A federal judge in Seattle recently granted a temporary restraining order against a man who wanted to post plans for 3D-printed guns on the internet.
He imposed the restraining order after Attorney General Bob Ferguson and others filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration after it agreed to allow the plans to be posted.
Many worry that the plastic printed guns would be difficult to detect and would allow people who can’t legally own a gun to print one.
Dr. Fredrick Rivara with the UW School of Medicine says the guns pose an acute danger to children, warning that the material would allow them to be easily confused with toy guns.
The problem could also compound the problem of school shootings as many high schools have 3D printers.
President Trump has himself questioned the logic of allowing plans for 3D-printed guns to be freely available.
