BELLINGHAM, Wash. — An Air Quality Alert will stay in effect for western Washington through Wednesday as the entire state, including Whatcom County, sees “very unhealthy” air conditions.
The National Weather Service encourages people to avoid spending too much time outside, especially children, the elderly and people with respiratory issues.
Western Whatcom County has “very unhealthy” air quality, but east county is in slightly better shape with plain “unhealthy” conditions.
A stronger push of marine air is expected to start clearing out the smoke Wednesday night, and the weather service forecasts smoke to be almost completely out of the area by this weekend.
