OLYMPIA, Wash. — Washington plans to use a grant of more than $284,000 to study mental health and addiction treatment services.
State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler says Washington is among the thirty states getting part of an $8.6 million grant from a program created under Obamacare.
The money will be used to investigate whether health insurers offer comprehensive and affordable mental health coverage and substance abuse treatments.
Kreidler says they will create an advisory committee and work to uncover any barriers people may face to getting the help they need.
Governor Inslee voices his support for the study, saying, “I am grateful to Commissioner Kreidler for his efforts to ensure that individuals and families have access to mental health and addiction resources. If we want to end this crisis, we need to break down all treatment barriers people may face, and insurance coverage is critical.”
