BELLINGHAM, Wash. — This was the most expensive summer at the pump since 2014, but we could see some relief soon.
Nationally, the average gas price over Labor Day weekend is expected to reach $2.84 per gallon, a 20 cent increase from Labor Day 2017.
Gas prices in Washington have remained above the national average throughout the summer and GasBuddy reports current prices in Whatcom County are at $3.22 — 39 cents above the national average.
Patrick Dehaan, head of petroleum analylsis at GasBuddy says the trend of steady price increase could continue for next summer, so what we’re upset about now could bring nostalgic memories this time next year.
He says we should begin to see prices gently decline after the holiday.
