LYMAN, Wash. — A Skagit County blueberry farm is having an elk problem.
Farm managers at Golden Eagle Farms in Skagit County east of Lyman on Highway 20 estimate elk have eaten almost 100,000 pounds of blueberries this season.
The Capital Press reports elk in the so-called Nooksack herd moved onto agricultural land in eastern Skagit County starting a few years ago.
Now, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife says it’s working to reduce agricultural damage by building fences, increasing hunting, and issuing permits to shoot elk on farmland.
