LUMMI NATION, Wash. — The National Park Service has sent out nearly one million dollars in Tribal Heritage Grants to support 23 cultural and historic preservation projects for Native American heritage and tradition.

The Lummi Nation was given $43,200 for “Tribal Heritage Sites Access/Protection Plans and Facilities.”

The agency also announced Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act grants to return ancestral remains and cultural items from museums and federal agencies to tribes.

The Swinomish tribe in Skagit County is the only Washington tribe to receive this grant.
