BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office says recent rainfall and reduced wildfire risk prompted them to lift the burn ban effective Friday for the unincorporated areas of Whatcom County.

The permanent ban on open burning is still in effect in urban growth areas, like Bellingham, Lynden and Ferndale.

The National Parks Service says a burn ban on lands in Skagit and Whatcom counties within the North Cascades National Park Complex is also lifted effective immediately.

That includes all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along Highway 20.

The ban, however, is still in effect in Chelan County.
