BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A local organization dedicated to affordable housing was just awarded a $10,000 grant.

Kulshan Community Land Trust announced they were awarded a State Farm Good Neighbor Citizenship grant to be used to continue affordable homeownership programs including financial literacy education.

Dean Fearing, Executive Director of the Kulshan CLT says the community is in a housing crisis.

He says the lack of affordable Whatcom County homes and a rental vacancy rate at less than 1% have created a gap in the Housing Continuum, meaning starter homes no longer exist.

The funds from the grant will allow the company to continue their homeowner education efforts and to establish more affordable homes in Whatcom County.
