OLYMPIA, Wash. — The carbon fee initiative that will be on the November ballot is drawing big donations both for and against — but mostly against.
The No on 1631 campaign bankrolled by the oil industry has raised over $20 million to defeat the measure that would charge large emitters of carbon pollution a fee to raise money to combat climate change.
Phillips 66 is the top donor with over $7 million.
Supporters of 1631 have raised just over $6 million.
The Nature Conservancy is their top donor at $1 million.
