BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Two assaults and a murder in Bellingham, which all appear random and happened in the span of twenty minutes, led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man Saturday.

Bellingham Police say officers responded to an assault in the 800 block of Lakeway Drive just after 11:00 AM and minutes later got reports of a man seriously injured in an assault near Lincoln and Potter Streets (behind the aquatic center and elementary school).

Within minutes a call came in about a gravely injured man on a trail off Meador Avenue, but he died before officers could reach him.

Using witness reports, a K-9 team, an off-duty officer and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office they tracked down and arrested Jesse R. Reyes without incident.

Police say the investigation is ongoing as more details unfold, but that Reyes is in jail facing multiple charges.
