TUMWATER, Wash. — After several bad wildfire seasons, the Department of Natural Resources hopes a large budget request will make it through the legislature and help them prevent wildfires or keep them small.
A $55 million budget request by Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz asks for full-time firefighters, better training, and the need for more quick response helicopters.
The DNR responded to over 1,700 wildfires across the state so far this year.
This past August because of wildfires Washington had the worst air quality in the nation.
