BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man and a woman from Bellingham are dead in a murder-suicide on the Lummi Reservation.
Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeff Parks says officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home on Little Beaver Road, near Gooseberry Point, Friday night just before 11:00.
They found 32-year-old Essie E. Cagey suffering gunshots to the chest and abdomen and 37-year-old Alakana L. Halemano dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Cagey later died at the hospital.
Cagey had a protection order against Halemano for a prior domestic assault in 2017 and witnesses say the two had been arguing before they heard gunshots.
Two other adults and three children who were in the home weren’t injured.
