BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University women’s soccer team set a program record with 10 student-athletes earning a spot on the 2018 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

WWU had 10 players fit the criteria of having a minimum of a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while being a sophomore standing or greater and in their second year at Western.

The 10 selections better the previous record of eight GNAC All-Academic picks from last season, which helped WWU earn its first United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award with a team GPA of 3.19 during the 2017-18 academic school year.

WWU’s selections to the Academic All-GNAC team is highlighted by five student-athletes that earned the GNAC Academic honor for the second consecutive season. Junior midfielder Jordyn Bartelson (3.43, Communications), junior forward Liv Larson (3.37, Outdoor Recreation), junior defender Annaliese Laurila (3.50, Business Marketing), junior defender Emily Nelson (3.62, Kinesiology) and senior goalkeeper Alyssa Treptow (3.56, Psychology) are all two-time selections to the GNAC Academic All-Conference team.

In addition to the success in the classroom, the Vikings are listed No. 15 in the NCAA Division II Coaches Poll and moved up to No. 2 in the West Region rankings. With a current 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1), WWU is 13-2-1 overall and tied for first place in the GNAC with a 8-1-1 mark.

Western closes out the regular season this week with road matches at Northwest Nazarene (Thursday, 4 pm MT/3 pm PT) and at Montana State Billings (Saturday, 1 pm MT/12 pm PT). The Vikings have already clinched a spot in the GNAC Championships that will be played Nov. 1-3 in Portland, Oregon.
