OLYMPIA, Wash. — Last week, Governor Inslee’s Southern Resident Killer Whale Task Force met to come up with ideas that could help our Puget Sound orca pods survive.

Orcas face threats varying from lack of prey, toxic contaminates, and vessel traffic noise.

The Task Force redrafted recommendations for protecting the orcas and their habitat, and are asking for public comments on the update.

Recommendations in the 28-page report include funding to the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office to support salmon habitat acquisition and restoration projects, and increasing criminal prosecution of violations related to habitat protection and water.

Comments on the updated draft recommendations must be submitted by October 29.
