BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A new agreement between the Port of Bellingham and Ports America will bring more jobs as international cargo vessels begin using the Bellingham Shipping Terminal on a regular basis.

Vessels carrying steel, international forest products, metal and aluminum ingots, and more will be loaded and unloaded by the terminal operators.

Ports America, the largest terminal operator in the U.S., says many of its customers requested the Bellingham Shipping Terminal because of its proximity to major cities and convenient truck corridor to I-5.

“This is a major turning point for the Bellingham Shipping Terminal,” says Port Commission President Ken Bell. “As the last Pacific Northwest seaport between the United States and Canada, it was only a matter of time before cargo operators recognized the Bellingham Shipping Terminal as a congestion-free alternative to the docks and terminals serving Vancouver and Seattle.”

The current contract with Ports America is for three years.
