OLYMPIA, Wash. — With the outbreak of wildfires in southern California, the Washington Commissioner of Public Lands sent more than 100 firefighters and 20 engines down to California to help contain the blazes.
More than 150,000 people around Sacramento and Los Angeles have been evacuated.
Commissioner Hilary Franz says Department of Natural Resources crews will help with the fire that spread from the Chico area which has already burned over 70,000 acres and some 2,000 structures.
With wildfire season over in Washington, Franz says she’s grateful our firefighters are willing to “once again jump to help our neighbors in need.”
Sending firefighters south to help battle the #CaliforniaWildfires. I’m so proud of the dedication of our @waDNR_fire fire crews for sacrificing their time to help our neighbors in need. pic.twitter.com/pLtgc1xmId
