OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — State Senate Democrats on Monday elected Sen. Andy Billig of Spokane to be their new leader.
Billig takes over from Sen. Sharon Nelson, who didn’t run for reelection.
He’ll lead a majority that has already increased to a 27-22 margin following last week’s election.
Republican Sen. Doug Ericksen’s and Sen. Luanne Van Werven’s seats are currently in recount territory, where their defeat would mean Democrats hold a 29-20 margin.
