BLAINE, Wash. — A Bellingham woman who died Saturday evening when she was hit by a car as she ran across the southbound lanes of I-5 has been identified.

The State Patrol says a Snohomish driver was southbound, approaching the Birch Bay-Lynden Road exit, just after 5:00 when 31-year-old Amanda Jean Mitchell ran across the median and into traffic, where the driver hit her.

Mitchell landed on the left shoulder and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver doesn’t face charges and troopers don’t know if drugs or alcohol were involved.
