SEATTLE, Wash. — Changes are in store for Washington’s labor laws.

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries released new preliminary draft rules spelling out possible changes for salaried workers, including an update to the minimum pay allowed to consider a salaried worker exempt from overtime.

Salaried employees earning less than the salary threshold are required by law to receive overtime, minimum wage, paid sick leave and other protections of the Minimum Wage Act.

The department is considering increasing the threshold to two times minimum wage starting in 2020, which they say hasn’t happened in over 40 years in Washington.

You can give feedback on their proposals at a public forum in Seattle on November 27.
