BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Strong winds and heavy rain are expected to hit Whatcom County Monday night, bringing flooding and power outages.

The National Weather Service says this will be the first significant wind storm of the season bringing more widespread damage from downed trees.

A High Wind Warning is in effect this Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning, while a Flood Watch will be in effect through Tuesday evening.

While the Nooksack River is expected to crest flood stage throughout Whatcom County, strong winds that could gust up to near 60 MPH in places will likely hit Ferndale, Bellingham and Sandy Point the hardest.
