BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Bellingham police are using innovative technology to open new lines of communication.
KIRO 7 reports the Bellingham Police Department implemented a translator app a few months ago to help officers communicate with the deaf community.
The app has live translators for many languages in addition to a video component for speakers of American Sign Language.
Officer Eric Osterkamp of the BPD says this is a life-changing technology, which he anticipates will help with situations such as one he had responding to a collision involving a deaf man.
