BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head women’s basketball coach Carmen Dolfo has announced the signing of post player Carley Zaragoza out of Union Mine High School in El Dorado, California.
Zaragoza is listed as a 6-1 center that has been a two-time All-League selection during her prep career. During her junior season in 2017-18, Zaragoza averaged 13.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. In two games so far during her senior season, Zaragoza has scored 72 points while making 31 field goals. El Dorado, California and Union Mine High School is located 40 miles East of Sacramento.
In three varsity seasons, Zaragoza has averaged 11.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while appearing in 51 games.
“Carley is a strong and competitive post player that will fit right into our program,” said Dolfo, who is in her 28th season leading the Vikings. “She is a very hard worker and is a great teammate. We are looking forward to Carley joining out program.”
She will be joining the Vikings as a freshman in 2019-20 on a team that is expected to have nearly the entire team return with one senior on the roster this season.
Zaragoza committed to the Vikings after her official visit to campus and is excited to play for the Vikings.
“My expectations were blown away with the both the team environment and their strong program. Team chemistry is something that has always been important to me and I definitely saw what I was looking for on my visit,” said Zaragoza. “They all made me comfortable and it was very clear that everyone loved the school and each other. I believe WWU has a great group of players and an exceptional coaching staff leading them, which ultimately made the decision for me. I am so blessed to be able to call myself a future Viking.”
