SUMAS, Wash. — Customs and Border Protection officers seized roughly 83 pounds of what they believe to be meth near the Sumas border crossing after a scuffle Thursday night.

Officers responded when two people were seen crossing into the U.S. illegally with large backpacks.

When confronted, CBP says one suspect hit an officer and struggled with him, before both abandoned the bags and ran back into Canada.

Canadian authorities say shortly after the incident, they arrested the man and a juvenile suspect nearby, and say officers found two more large backpacks of what is likely meth in their car.
