BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A former Bellingham Police Officer was sentenced Wednesday to 8 years in prison and given a no-contact order for his ex-wife who he beat for years.
Brooks Owen Laughlin was arrested on a slew of domestic abuse charges after his then-wife went to Everson Police in March, providing photos of bruising, including marks on her neck from the numerous times he tried to strangle her.
Laughlin was also accused of threatening to kill her family and stalking her through a GPS app on her phone that she was unaware of.
The court’s sentence was right between the prosecutor’s recommendation of 11 years and the defense’s request of 5 years.
